View Full Version : folder not available
hello everyone,
I have a problem with compare files or folders in my local network. One of my folder is bigger than 50GB and if I open this folder I get a message "folder not available". But in windows explorer I can open this folder and change files.
Can you help me ??
thanks

Are you mapping the drive to a drive letter? Does it make any difference if you open it in BC using a UNC path? (like \\MachineName\Sharename)?
at first, thank you for helping me !
There is no different if I map the path to a drive letter or if I use the UNC path.
I have tested both variants.
Do you have any idea?

When you said your folder was larger than 50GB, is that all in one directory, or spread throughout subdirectories? How many files are there?
Also, are you using the latest release of BC?
hello, I'm here again,
I have about 30-40 subfolder in this directory and there are 11.000 files in all folders.
I use BC 2.0.1. Can I solve this problem with a newer version of BC and if yes, is this version for free?

If you have a license for 2.0.1 you can upgrade to the latest version 2.1.2 for free.
There have been many fixes from 2.0.1 to 2.1.2. Please upgrade and let us know if you are still having the problem.
now I have the latest version of BC, but the problem is the same! Do you have an other idea?

Can you compare a smaller subfolder within the 50 Gig folder?
Hi Craig;
Different Anonymous user here...
I have been having the same problem between two computers on my home LAN. Interestingly enough, the problem only works one-way - when a Windows 2000 PC is attempting to connect to a Windows 98 Share - in the other direction there is no problem.
I have a directory structure on the W98 PC something like this:
D:\D-DRIVE (a directory off the root of D)
+---Restore (a subdirectory of D-DRIVE)
+---Software (a subdirectory of D-DRIVE)
+Bigfiles (a directory off the root of D)
D-DRIVE is shared as D ; as a test (reading your previous comments) I shared RESTORE as RESTORE
If I attempt to connect to \\computername\D I receive the "Folder not available error). Just in case it was a length issue I renamed the share to DDRIVE - no difference.
If I connect to \\computername\RESTORE (two directories deep) it works successfully.
Interestingly enough, as a test I created a directory called "X" and moved the entire D-DRIVE folder underneath it and re-shared it on the W98 PC - BC now had no problem reading the directory. I re-moved the directory back to D:\D-DRIVE
and the error resurfaced.
This is a minor issue that I've had with an absolutely wonderful program - thanks very much... and yes, I long ago paid my personal registration fee for home, as well as got some versions licensed for the company I work for.
Thanks again.

Can you access the through Explorer using the same UNC path?
Yes. Normal browsing (explorer, CMD prompt, etc. works fine).
If you want to take this offline, I can provide you with Ethereal packet traces, if this helps...
Let me know what address to contact you at, otherwise we can continue in this forum.
