I'm not even sure exactly how to describe this, but maybe it makes more sense with an example:

I have photos that I have downloaded from my camera on two different computers, one mine and the other my friend's. On each computer, I have set up different structures to put the photos in. I am not sure that all of the photos from this summer have been downloaded to both computers, but I have this summer's photos on my computer within a single base folder (separated into their own sub-directories). My friend also has a base folder for her photos, but she has a lot of other photos in there that are not from this summer. What I would like BC2 to do is basically take all of the photos contained within my base folder and tell me which ones exist within my friend's base folder. Keep in mind, the insides of our base folders are structured differently. Can BC2 do this?

Sorry for the complicated explanation, for some reason I'm having difficulty describing what I'm trying to do. Thanks in advance for any help!

Best,
Jon

Hello Jon,

BC2 cannot do this. Folder structure within your base folders is considered important to the comparison. You would need to set your base folders in a way so that the file names are in the same subfolder structure and align with the same file name.

BC3 has an option to "Ignore Folder Structure", but this still considers the file names to be important. Your files must have unique names (no duplicates) for the results to show smoothly. If there are any duplicate names, you would need to look at each pair, since BC3 aligns and then runs the comparison it may or may not align the correct pairs of files for comparison; they would need to be compared manually.

BC3's trial can be installed and won't interfere with your BC2 install. By default, the settings are stored in separate locations and it installs to a different directory.

Hi Aaron,

Thanks for your reply. Sounds like BC3's feature is just what I'm looking for. Have a nice day.
