I have setup a session that backs up my files to DVD RW, this consists of 20 directories containing between them a little over 5000 files.
I tried three times to execute the session and each time it froze BC halfway through the backup, this was from a standing start with only the toplevel directory present on the DVD, no files or subdirectories. When I did a CTRL ALT DEL in WindowsXP Pro SP1, it told me that BC was running, though it obviously was not, but I am fairly certain it was Nero InCD that had froze. Has anyone any experience with this?

When I copied the files to the DVD first, using windows Explorer (and thereby InCD) the files transfered without problem. BC then ran without problem, and identified any changed files correctly.

Dave, if you are not already using BC version 2.1, I suggest that you try it. See:

Hi,
Yes I am using 2.1, and the thread you pointed to is Direct CD, my problem is with InCD and BC 2.1

Thanks anyway.

Dave,

Since BC 2.1 uses the same copy routines as Explorer, I'm guessing the extra DirectCD handling we added is what's causing the problems. We haven't tested InCD internally, and haven't heard from anyone else one way or the other. Send an email to support@scootersoftware.com. When I get into the office on Monday I'll put together a test build with the DirectCD behavior disabled. If that works correctly we may need to add an explicit option to control it.

If you haven't yet, try contacting Nero's tech support too and see if they have any advice.

Craig,
InCD on its own, worked perfectly, it was only when I first setup the session that I had problems.
I started by creating just one folder on my DVD called Backup, as I have one named the same on my backup hard drive.
I then created a session in BC 2.1 that compared my D:\Backup with my newly created DVD F:\Backup, it obviously found that drive D had 5000+ files that were not on drive F, these files were spread throughout 20 subdirectories. BC2.1 started to copy the files across, but each time I tried (3) BC stopped the transfer at the halfway mark, and not always at the same place.
As I could not get it to work, I simply ran Windows explorer and selected all the files in my D:\Backup folder and copied them to my DVD (F) drive using drag and drop, this obviously uses InCD and it worked flawlessly.
I am still uncertain which utility has a problem here, as InCD worked perfectly without BC2.1
Now all the files are present on my DVD drive, BC2.1 updates any files that have changed without problem.
The 5000+ files amount to around 2GB in total size.
I would try again if you need me too help ascertain where the problem lies. But as I say, this is the first time I have had any problems involving InCD.

EDIT: BTW my InCD version is the latest 4.1.0.0
