Hi,

would it be possible to provide BC in an update site for aptitude or apt-get,
to be put in /etc/apt/sources.list?
That way updating to new versions would be automatic.

It is on our list to look into this. We do have a built-in auto-updater. It notifies you in the upper right corner, and you can configure how often it checks for updates in the Tools -> Options: Startup dialog.

Hi,

Unless i'm missing it, there doesn't seem to be an option for specifying a proxy for the auto-updater to use. I am behind a corporate firewall, so need to specify a web proxy otherwise the auto-updater hangs for a while then reports connection problems.

Great bit of software btw - and nice to see it on Linux now.

Hi!

The disrespect of a neccesary proxy got already pointed out earlier this year, see this thread: http://www.scootersoftware.com/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=310

Obviously we need more votes for proxy-support of the auto-update-mechanism under Linux to raise its priority ...

I take it this is a Linux-only deficiency, then? Auto update works fine in Windows behind my corporate firewall.

Yes, that's correct.
Only the Linux builds are affected. :(

Apologies, I had a look through the forum but didn't spot this. I will add a comment/vote there.

I am no expert, but in the distros I have used it seems fairly standard to have a http_proxy environment variable. If this is present it should be fairly easy to pick up.

Thanks,
Steve

Hi Steve,

you don't need to apologize for this, I'm glad that there is another user who came arcoss the problem. I merely gave a hint to the older thread for the case that the developers had forgotten it.

Bye

Hello,

We just updated the thread Christoph pointed to. We should be adding http_proxy support for the next release. Let us know if you have any questions once it is out.
