In a data compare:

It would be helpful if the Copy command from the right-click context menu worked as follows:

When a user right-clicks over a cell, only copy the text within that cell.
When a user right-clicks on the row number, copy the values in the entire row.

For multi-row selectons, it would be nice if it worked the same way (i.e. the user could copy a list of values within a specific column, or copy all columns of the selected rows) but I will understand if the Scooter team doesn't take it that far without reworking the data compare grid. Ideally, a user should be able to select a single cell or a group of cells in a single column so that the actual context of the selection matches the copy activity that takes place. I don't know why the data compare was developed with row-based selections only???

Scooter - Did the ability to copy the contents of one or more cells in a data compare make it onto the customer wish list?

Our next release (3.0.11) will include the following changes to the Data Compare:

Copy will only include cells of selected rows that are visible. To only copy certain columns, hide all others before performing the copy.
Row Details will allow you to position in a particular cell and Copy when focused there will only include the text for that cell.

Thank you. I look forward to trying it out.

Erik:

It was not intuitive for me to have to go into Row Details to copy a single cell. I had to come back to the forums and re-read your post to figure it out. Is there a reason why this could not be done in the body of the data compare (i.e. clicking a single cell selects that cell, and clicking on the margin/line number selects the entire row)?

This is an intermediate design as we work towards a r/w view. Eventually we will likely support ranged cell selections in the main view, and gutter selections for whole rows. But that might not happen for quite a while.

Thanks, Tim. This is a good work-around for the time being.
