I have build 452 installed on Ubuntu 8.04 beta 32bit. Start a text compare session and open a .pdf file on the left side. Click the "current locale (UTF-8)" drop-down menu.
On my system the entire Gnome desktop hangs for about 10-15 seconds while this huge menu is loaded. When the menu is displayed it has 60 or more entires. During the hang BC is using all available CPU resources.

Thanks for reporting the issue. Right now the PDF file format in Beyond Compare 3 only works on Windows.
The tool we're using to convert PDF files to text for comparison does have a Linux version, so we hope to add support for PDF files in the future.
For the current version, you'll need to use an external utility to convert the PDF files to text, then compare the text files in BC3.
The Windows PDF comparison uses XPDF, you can get the Linux port from: http://www.foolabs.com/xpdf/download.html

I was able to reproduce your problem, my system hangs as well when I drop down the locales menu. I'll try to find out what's taking so long.

This issue has been fixed, the locales drop-down menu is much more responsive now.
