I am getting this now with the lastest version of Version 3.0 (build 8507)
8/1/2008 11:33:10 AM Unable to copy MyFileName: SFTP component not connected
I am connected to the server, I can see the file directory. Thoughts?

Robert,
Please send a log showing the problem SFTP connection to support@scootersoftware.com and we will look into this further. To save BC3's log to a file, click the save button on the left side of the green log pane.

I'm getting the same error in BeyondCompare3 when I attempt to do anything with my SFTP site. I can connect to the SFTP site and view the directory structure no problem, but I cannot view, edit, or copy individual files to my SFTP site. Here's a sample of the message I get in the log (I've x'd out server key and other such stuff). An expedient resolution of this issue would be greatly appreciated!

My SFTP problem is even more basic - I can't connect with BC.
I am using Beyond Compare 3.0.11 build 9510 and am having problems establishing an SFTP connection.
I can connect successfully with Filezilla, so I know that my connection information is correct and that the server accepts a connection.
BC help says:
To specify SFTP (SSH2) access, use this syntax:
sftp://username@hostname.com
The titlebar of my Filezilla connection reports this same syntax, but it does not connect. (I happen to be using an actual IP for the 'hostname.com'). Connection fails with the "Folder Not Available" window. When I browse (using the "..." button), I notice that FTP is the only option available in the "Protocol:" dropdown list in the "Browse for Folder" window.
"Connect & Browse" fails with "Unable to connect to server"
BcLogTrace reports:
10/12/2008 9:28:18 AM Stat> Connected.
10/12/2008 9:28:18 AM Recv> SSH-2.0-OpenSSH_4.3p2 Debian-9
10/12/2008 9:28:58 AM Stat> Disconnected.
10/12/2008 9:28:58 AM Read timed out.
(Perhaps this belongs in a new thread; I've just registered and activated, but I can't post).
Thanks for any suggestions.

Thanks for the reply Craig. I upgraded to Pro and don't have any problem now.

If "FTPS (Explicit SSL)" and "SFTP (SSH2)" aren't available in your dropdown that means you're using the standard edition of BC. Obviously we'll need to improve the error handling in this case.
You'll need to upgrade your license to the pro edition for SFTP support.

I started getting this yesterday (after MONTHS of it working fine) and can no longer upload any complete file. I then noticed that I wasn't up to date... so I updated. Now I'm at most current as of yesterday, and problem still exists.
I still have a copy of the initial release of BC3; I'm going to uninstall/reintall that to see if things will start working again. If not, I'm going to have to stop using BC3 and Eclipse and start using (ugh) Dreamweaver.

If it just started having trouble it sounds like either the server's configuration or it's software was changed.

Hi!
Do other SFTP clients like WinSCP or Filezilla work on that server?
Bye

Do you get similar errors with other sftp clients, such as Filezilla? Is it possible something has changed on your server yesterday? A security update, patch, or server setting?
And for some reason, Craig and Christoph's responses did not appear during a refresh, but only after I posted.

Filezilla still works fine. So does Dreamweaver's built-in SFTP support. In fact, I downloaded an Eclipse plug-in called JCraft SFTP (it's old and is at version 0.02) and it works too.
BC is the only one not working. I tried again this morning and got the same error. I also emailed our support staff for the SUN machines to ask if there has been a change, but I haven't gotten a response yet.
Thanks!

Hi Jean,
Are you using the newest version of Beyond Compare 3? What kind of comparison criteria are you using when you load your session? Could you send your BCSupport package to support@scootersoftware.com with a link to this post?

I encountered the same matter today. I was able to see the SFTP files using filezilla, but BC3 (3.2.4 build 13298) would appear to time out and report unable to connect.

Hello,
Sorry to hear you are running into trouble. We've had a few tweaks to this area since early 2009, so you are probably running into something else.
Please enable detailed logging in the Tweaks dialog (Ctrl+Shift+T), Folder Views tab, "Include debug messages in log".
Then please post or email your log to support@scootersoftware.com. If you email us, please include the link back to this forum post for reference. Please also include the whole log, including the timeout/error message. Thanks.
