I'm interested in the just released BC 2.5 Beta since I'm Vista x64 user. I have a of question, though, before I take the plunge and update. (I know side-by-side installations are supported, but I prefer to just have one installation, even if it's a beta.)

Are the plugins still compatible, specifically HexView 2.5 and DataView 2.4?

Yes, the plug-ins are all compatible. Also, you can always revert to BC 2.4.3 by reinstalling it over the beta.

Please note that if you already had the plug-ins installed for version 2.4.3, you'll need to copy the plug-in .bcp files to the BC 2.5 beta folder if you installed the beta to a separate folder from the release version.

Okay, this was very dumb of me.

Like I said I was going to do above, I just installed the beta over the old version (just like I do for any BC update). Every went okay other than having to restart Windows for some reason (I haven't used BC in days, like 25 reboots ago), but BC seems to work fine, and I'm still registered.

BUT, now there are two unins00x.(exe|dat) sets in the directory, and in my Add/Remove panel, v.2.4.3 is still being cited even though, technically, it's not installed (the beta overwrote all the files I mean).

To keep my system clean, I guess I should try to uninstall them both and then install the beta as a fresh install?

Okay, never mind.

I uninstalled in reverse order. BC beta required a reboot again (why is that?), and then BC official passed along a complaint from rundll about a missing file:

...but then hummed along and seemed to uninstall okay.

I then reinstalled the beta, and now I'm back in business. :)
