View Full Version : Unimportant diffs in the folder viewer?

If you try to compare 2 directories that contain files with unimportant differences, then the folder viewer will say that they are different. You have to launch the file viewer for each set of files to get the folder viewer to say that they have unimportant differences.

Will the next version have an option to automatically scan the files to determine if the differences are unimportant? Obviously it would take a lot longer to finish the scan, but it would be nice to have the option.

You can already do this with the current version of Beyond Compare by changing the comparison criteria in the Folder Viewer.

By default the Folder Viewer compares file timestamp and size. When you open a pair of files in the File Viewer and then return to the Folder Viewer, the rules-based text comparison results from the File Viewer are displayed in the Folder Viewer.

To make the Folder Viewer compare files based on text contents, select Session|Comparison Control. For Compare Contents, select "Rules-based comparison".

To only compare the contents of selected files in the Folder Viewer, use the Actions|Compare Contents command.
