View Full Version : Symantec AntiVirus sees BC install as "AdwareSpy"

21-Apr-2006, 07:35 AM
Hello,

As of the Virus Definitions update yesterday (Version: 4/20/2006 rev. 9), SAV now claims that the Beyond Compare installer is "AdwareSpy" - their definition, not mine

Needless to say, this is thowing my IT Dept. into chaos.

Apparently only the installer is being flagged, not the installed EXE.

Any comments?

Does your installer really have Spyware  If not, you'd better contact Symantec.. I'm sure you're going to have a lots of angry customers/lost sales.

Same here. If it's really there, you need to take some action to remove it before you lose customers. Otherwise, as the previous post said, you need to get on with Symantec and get the problem solved! BTW, I had versions 2.2.5, 2.3.1 and 2.4 (the installation files) on my system. Symantec quarantined all three.

The installer is not infected with AdwareSpy. It is a false positive. See here for details: http://www.scootersoftware.com/support.php?c=kb_symantec

Our thanks to everyone who reported this!

Yes, we contacted Symantec and they'll look into it "in the next 4 to 6 weeks". :( As you can imagine, this is quite upsetting and frustrating for us. Luckly it wasn't too difficult for us to change the installer enough to avoid the false positive.
