View Full Version : Upgrade to 2.4 (and 2.41) having timestamp issues
Since upgrading to 2.41 I am havings a lot of issues with timestamp comparissons, taht with the previous versions I have never had. For example, if I update a file on the left and upload it to the right. Then change that same file 20 minutes later, when I hit F5 to refresh, both sides show as red, and therefore I cannot sync to the right unless I manually click on the copy link. If I click on the >> sync right link it says there is nothing to do. The times display and the left file has a newer time on it so it should show as the newer and allow me to sync right.
That is in SmartFTP mode. In Indy9 mode I have another set of timestamp issues.
Any help you can give me would be great.

Do you have timestamp comparison turned on? If you don't have timestamp comparison turned on in Session|Comparison Control, that might explain why syncing says "Nothing to do". See other explanations for "Nothing to do" at: http://www.scootersoftware.com/support.php?c=kb_nothingtodo.php
This might also be explained if your FTP server doesn't support setting timestamps. If the FTP server doesn't support it, after you upload the file on the server will have the current server time as its timestamp. If you edit the local file, it might still have an older time than the time on the server. That would explain why sync won't update the file.
It might help to change the sync command to upload files to the server if there are content differences. To change this setting, go to the Sync Options section of Tools|Options. Change "If files are different" to "Copy left to right".
My server clearly does not let BC set the file time, so BC always thinks the file on my side is 3 hours older than the one on the server.
It would be great if I could tell BC that the server is 3 hours ahead. Is this on your list of things to do?

You can set the timezone difference in the Advanced tab of BC's Session|Comparison Control dialog.
To work around FTP servers that don't support setting timestamps, it is also useful to check "Touch local files when copying to an FTP site" in the same dialog.
Thank you Chris. I'm chagrined that I did not see that before.
I guess I wasn't fully clear. Yes, I do have timestamp comparisson turned on and am touching local files to deal with the ftp server not letting me set the time.
What I'm mentioning is that configurations that worked exactly as expected have not done that since the 2.4 and 2.41 upgrades. So the message I listed above are occuring where they did not prior to the upgrade. Any ideas?

Timestamp behavior can vary depending on your BC settings and the FTP server you're connecting to.
Please email me with the type of server software in use on the server you're having problems with, along with a zip of your BC settings using Help|Support and the Export button and I'll look into this further. Send the email to support@scootersoftware.com .
