View Full Version : Comparing Files With Different Names

19-Mar-2005, 05:12 PM
I have a large number of files in different directories. There are probably many duplicates, not necessarily with identical names and dates. It is impractical to manually use the BC right-click Compare To feature. Can it be done using Rules and/or Filters?

Hi Hall!

As far as I know, this is not possible in the current version of BC, but I'm sure it's already on the wish list.

But your desired feature is IMHO described pretty inconcrete. Against what criteria are the files to be compared? If you have for example 100 files comparing each against each other might become quite complex .

Can you give us an inspiration of your requirements?

BC doesn't have a duplicate file searching command yet, although it is on the wish list.

If you're just looking for duplicates, there are many shareware duplicate file utilities available. A Google search for "duplicate file" should list some good options.

Can I assume then that the file duplicate search funtionality will not be included in the upcoming Beyond Compare version 3?

Thanks,

Although it's too early to say exactly what will be in version 3 and what won't, we do hope to get a duplicate file search function in the 3.0 release.
