Temp Files

Beyond Compare uses temporary files for expansion of archive (zip) files and for content comparison (CRC, Binary, Rules-based) of files on FTP, FTPS, SFTP, and cloud storage servers.

Windows

Temp files are stored in the folder defined by the TMP environment variable.  The default temp folder path is:  C:\Users\username\AppData\Local\Temp

Temp files and folders are named BCXNNNN.tmp, where X is BC's major version number and NNNN is a 4 digit hex number.

macOS

Temp files are stored in a hashed folder defined by the system NSTemporaryDirectory() function.  The path is not user configurable.  Example temp folder path:  /var/folders/b1/n0cz7lvd5z58j94h8ssh_b5c0000gn/T/

Linux

Beyond Compare 4.1+:

Temp files are stored in the folder defined by the TMPDIR environment variable.  The default temp folder path is:  /tmp

Beyond Compare 3 - 4.0.7:

The temp folder path is:  /tmp
