What's New in Version 3
Beyond Compare version 3 is a fairly complete rewrite of the application. Like the transition from version 1 to version 2, we are taking this opportunity to rethink the user interface, redesign some of the internal fundamentals, and add significant new functionality. If it ain't broke, why fix it?
Version 2 has been tremendously successful, and the last thing we want to do is to mess it up or alienate our existing users with unnecessary changes. However, version 2 has been out since 2002 and it's getting more difficult to make significant code changes. It's also hard to make incremental changes to the user interface without complicating documentation and support.
It's a big challenge to design a utility that is both powerful and simple to use. Even though version 3 adds many new features, we think we have done a better job organizing and presenting the various comparison windows and tasks, and actually have made the program easier to use. We've made sure that most all of version 2 functionality is represented, along with some of version 2's look and feel. However, version 3 has its own distinctive personality.
